Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Chrysler New Yorker was introduced in 1939 as the brand’s premium model, showcasing luxury, innovation, and performance. Over the decades, it evolved through various design eras — from pre-war elegance to post-war modernism and the bold styling of the 1950s.
By 1954, the New Yorker offered numerous models and trim levels, including the Deluxe Newport, a two-door hardtop coupe that featured Chrysler’s 331 cubic-inch FirePower Hemi V8 engine (in two-barrel or four-barrel carb configuration) generating up to 235 horsepower. The ’54 New Yorker was also among the first to offer Chrysler’s new PowerFlite automatic transmission, which provided smooth, clutchless shifting and enhanced driving comfort.
The Newport’s hardtop coupe design, with its pillarless roofline, gave the car a sleek, sporty profile while maintaining the elegance expected of a New Yorker, and the Deluxe trim offered upscale amenities such as two-tone upholstery, chrome accents, and optional power accessories including windows, seats, and steering.
The 1954 New Yorker Deluxe Newport is one of the rarer New Yorkers, as Chrysler built only 1,312 of them. This one will need some work to return it to its former glory, but it is mechanically sound and ready for its next chapter.
