Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
One of the most iconic and rare American cars of the early 1950s, the 1951 Hudson Hornet Convertible Brougham was introduced as part of Hudson’s new Hornet line and was the most luxurious and exclusive body style offered that year, with only 551 units produced.
At the heart of the Hornet was Hudson’s innovative “step-down” chassis design, which placed the floor pan inside the perimeter frame rails. This lowered the car’s center of gravity, improving handling and safety while giving it a sleek, low-slung profile. The Hornet was powered by a 308 cubic-inch L-head inline-six, the largest six-cylinder engine in mass production at the time. It produced 145 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque, and when equipped with the optional Twin H-Power dual-carburetor setup, it became a formidable force on the racetrack.
The Convertible Brougham featured elegant styling with flowing lines, chrome accents, and a well-appointed interior that seated six. Buyers could choose between a three-speed manual or Hydramatic automatic transmission, and the car rode on a 124-inch wheelbase, offering a smooth and comfortable ride.
The Hornet quickly gained fame in NASCAR, where it dominated the early 1950s racing scene, earning the nickname “Fabulous Hudson Hornet.” Its success on the track and its advanced engineering made it a legend in American automotive history.
