Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1942 Packard Clipper Eight Touring Sedan marked a pivotal moment in Packard’s evolution. Introduced as part of the 15th Series, the Clipper represented a bold departure from traditional upright styling, embracing streamlined, modern lines influenced by aircraft design. The Clipper’s integrated fenders, low beltline, and sweeping silhouette set a new standard for American luxury cars. So, although the 1942 production run was shortened as the U.S. entered World War II and civilian automobile manufacturing ceased, the Touring Sedan provided the ideal starting point for custom builders.
This one, for example, has been modified, and work included numerous mechanical upgrades like a Ford 302 cu-in V8 engine with Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, Edelbrock air cleaner and chrome valve covers, HEI distributor and headers, new flywheel, and an electric fan. The Clipper also received a five-speed manual transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes and more as detailed below.
Stylistically, this Packard's bumpers and badges were shaved; the car received a two-tone paint job with silver metallic on the body and a maroon matte finish on the roof and rear; and its original front bench seat was swapped for modern bucket seats.
This enhanced Packard Clipper is now offered in Michigan on behalf of its current owner with its factory bumpers and front bench seat.
