The 2021 Can-Am Outlander X MR 850 builds on a lineage that began in 2016 as a mud-focused variant of the Outlander series by BRP, designed for extreme off-road performance. It features a rugged Rotax 854 cc V‑twin engine — liquid‑cooled with 78 hp and fuel injection — optimized with a snorkel air intake and a relocated radiator to tackle deep mud and water. The X MR trim introduced factory-installed enhancements, such as heavy-duty steel bumpers front and rear, integrated brush and radiator guards, and aluminum mud-riding foot pegs—standardized to amp durability and protection.

In 2021, the model retained its tough DNA: 14″ cast-aluminum wheels wrapped in 30″ ITP Cryptid tires, FOX 1.5 PODIUM shocks, and Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) G2 chassis with Geometric Contact Control.
