When the refreshed 2013 Shelby Mustang GT500 debuted, its supercharged V8 was instantly hailed. This 5.8L powerhouse churned out a stunning 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft. of torque, launching the car to 60 mph in the mid-three-second range. Yet the real revelation was how far the GT500 had evolved beyond brute force, emerging as a genuinely well-rounded performance car.

Beneath its aggressive exterior, the GT500 featured a comprehensive suite of cooling, braking, and handling upgrades engineered to harness the might of its blown V8. A cavernous front air intake supplied ample cooling, while oversized Brembo brakes yanked the car down from 60 mph in a remarkable 101 feet. And a thoroughly refined chassis delivered sharper steering, quicker responses, and greater composure at the limits of grip. Add the available SVT Performance Package’s electronically adjustable Bilstein dampers and Torsen limited-slip differential, and the GT500 proved itself to be not just brutally fast, but also balanced and confidence inspiring.
