Introduced for 2012, the Porsche Cayman R was the ultimate evolution of the first-generation 987 Cayman — and a worthy competitor to the 911.

Based on the Cayman S, the R extracted an additional 10 horsepower from its 3.4-liter flat-six for a total of 330 hp at a sonorous 7,400 rpm. Augmenting that power gain was a comprehensive weight-reduction program utilizing aluminum doors, lightweight seats, reduced sound insulation, pull-strap door releases, and the optional deletion of the radio and air conditioning trimmed approximately 120 pounds. This increased power and reduced weight served a singular purpose: to sharpen the driving experience.

That goal was met with a lowered sport suspension, revised chassis tuning, lightweight wheels, and a fixed rear wing inspired by the legendary 1967 911 R. The result was a remarkably focused, 3,000-pound mid-engine sports car with exceptional balance, precision, and steering feel. Many enthusiasts regard the Cayman R as one of the purest analog Porsches of the modern era, blending lightness, simplicity, and performance into a truly memorable driver’s machine.

This example began its life in California, before moving to Texas in 2017. It is finished in Carrara White with black leather upholstery, rides on 19” wheels, and has been optioned with the Chrono Package, Sports exhaust, and a fixed rear spoiler. And its reflexes have been further sharpened with aftermarket suspension components, GT3 brake ducts, a harness bar with race harnesses, and an aftermarket shifter. It currently shows approximately 49,000 miles.
