After all these years, he’s still “The King of Cool.”  Steve McQueen left an enduring legacy, and of all his accomplishments, gearheads think instantly of the movie Bullitt and that famous 10-minute, 53-second chase scene. Playing the part of San Francisco detective Frank Bullitt, “Dad had to find a car that made sense for the movie,” Chad McQueen, Steve’s only son, once told the LA Times. “A really neat car for the character to drive, something a detective might afford on his salary. My dad hit that one right on the head.”   

Recognizing the power of Steve McQueen’s image, Ford first introduced a BULLITT edition Mustang in 2001, followed by the 2008 Bullitt based on the fifth-generation Mustang (S197). The 2008 Bullitt featured a 4.6-liter V8 engine, five-speed manual transmission, cold air intake, revised exhaust system, and performance-tuned suspension. On the outside, the 2008 Bullitt is understated, with a black mesh grille, 18-inch Euroflange wheels, and no rear spoiler, available in Dark Highland Green or Black, paying homage to the original movie car. Inside, the Bullitt features Charcoal Black leather seats and aluminum trim. Just 6,624 were produced in 2008, “saluting the 40th anniversary of the silver screen’s coolest car chase.”

Known Imperfections 

• The CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows on 25 December 2017 “Accident reported: moderate damage” and “It hit a guide rail.” The consignor states, “Black ice collision with guard rail, left-front fender was replaced with Ford OEM and professionally painted” 

• RH rear quarter is showing progress paint issues with delamination of clearcoat in two spots 

• The roof has a few dents from acorns, visible on close inspection  

• The rest of the body has small nicks/scratches but no major issues 

• Windshield has a small stone chip near the base that was repaired by Safelite 

• Rear view mirror delaminating with age
