Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

In September 1965, Shelby American made a deal with Hertz Rent-A-Car to produce a special Mustang GT350, the GT350H. Most of the Hertz Shelbys were Raven Black with Bronze Powder side and Le Mans stripes. Ford said, “The idea was to put high-performance, special-edition Shelby Mustang GT350s into the hands of racing enthusiast-minded rental customers.” They earned the nickname “Rent-A-Racer” — the hard way.

In 2006 Carroll Shelby returned to Ford for the first time in decades. Their first collaboration was the Mustang Shelby GT-H, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the GT350H Mustangs. Shelby American in Las Vegas, Nevada, upgraded Mustangs built on the new S197 platform. The new Shelby had the familiar Shadow Black paint with gold stripes of the originals and was equipped with the optional FR1 Power Pack for an additional 25 hp, and the FR3 Ford Racing Handling Pack. Shelby also replaced the standard 3.31:1 rear with 3.55:1 gears. Retro-themed Shelby grille, hood, and side brake scoops completed the look.

At age 83, Carroll Shelby was back building Mustangs, and Ford and Shelby produced 343 units of the 2007 Shelby GT-H Convertible (out of 500 total), all exclusively for Hertz rental fleets. Hertz eventually sold them to the public, and this example shows both low mileage and all-original equipment intact.
