The fourth-generation Pontiac GTO arrived for 2004 as a direct collaboration with Holden in Australia, where the same car was sold as the Monaro. Underneath its conservative exterior sat one of the most driver-focused platforms available in an American showroom at the time — rear-wheel drive and V8 power calibrated for performance rather than compliance. For 2006, the final model year of the reborn GTO, Pontiac fitted the larger 6.0-liter LS2 V8 producing a factory rated 400 horsepower, new 18-inch wheels, and a revised hood with functional scoops. Production totaled just over 13,000 units for 2006, making it the rarest year of the trio.
