Description
When Jack Roush builds a Mustang, you know it’s going to be special. Roush began as an engine development engineer at Ford Motor Company in 1964. Throughout the 1970s he was a champion Pro Stock drag racer before turning to sports cars as a team owner in 1984, then NASCAR in ’88, always racing Fords. He also founded Roush Performance Engineering in 1995 building some of the hottest street Mustangs around.
The third generation of the Roush Mustangs debuted in 2005 and was based on the new S197 fifth-generation Mustang. New Mustang GTs were shipped to Roush, where the famed ROUSHCharger was added to the stock 4.6-liter engine. The Roush body kit added a unique front valance, three-piece rear spoiler, nine-bar front grille, and a hood scoop. Inside is an Auto Meter carbon fiber gauge cluster and other unique details.
The 2005 Mustang GT is a very complete performance automobile, but as Paul Burke, Roush Performance Engineering Manager explained, “We used our previous generation Stage 3 Mustang as a minimum performance level starting point... and then we raised our targets from there.” And this low-mile Roush Stage 1, with a Kenne Bell supercharger and other tasteful upgrades, is right on target.
