Introduced for 2002, the Mini Cooper S was the performance-oriented version of the Mini lineup and combined retro styling with modern engineering, appealing to enthusiasts and urban drivers alike. 

Like all first-generation Cooper S models, the 2005 version was powered by a 1.6-liter supercharged inline-four engine, producing 168 horsepower. This engine, developed in partnership with Chrysler, was mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with an optional automatic available. The supercharger gave the car a distinctive whine and a punchy, responsive character, making it a favorite among driving purists. 

The car’s go-kart-like handling was a standout feature, thanks to its short wheelbase, low center of gravity, and sport-tuned suspension. The 2005 model also introduced the Mini Cooper S Convertible, expanding the lineup and offering open-air fun with the same spirited performance. Inside, the Cooper S blended quirky British charm with German precision, and the car’s safety features included front and side airbags, ABS, and stability control.

Ownership History 

The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this three-owner 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible in California. The car was purchased new on 25 September 2004 in Brentwood, California, then was sold just 11 months later in August 2005. The Mini Cooper’s current owner bought the convertible in September 2020.
