The 2004 Ford Mustang 40th Anniversary Edition commemorated four decades of one of America’s most iconic muscle cars. Introduced in 1964, the Mustang quickly became a cultural phenomenon, defining the “pony car” segment with its sporty styling and accessible performance.
The 40th Anniversary Edition was based on the final model year of the fourth-generation Mustang (1994–2004). It featured unique styling cues to celebrate the milestone, including special 40th Anniversary badging, Arizona Beige exterior accents, and exclusive Crimson Red paint. Available in both coupe and convertible body styles, it offered a choice between a 3.8-liter V6 or a more powerful 4.6-liter V8 engine in the GT trim, as on this example. Inside, the anniversary model included premium touches like leather seats with embossed logos and upgraded trim.
Ford produced approximately 7,700 units of the 40th Anniversary Edition, serving as a tribute to the Mustang’s enduring legacy just before the debut of the retro-inspired fifth generation in 2005. As Ford stated, “Mustang’s 40th Anniversary Edition is more than a car—it’s a rolling celebration of American muscle, style, and freedom.”
