Description
Chevrolet called it, “Performance – American Style.” The 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS marked the final year of the fourth-generation Camaro, closing a chapter in the car’s storied muscle car legacy. Built on the F-body platform, the SS was the high-performance variant, developed in collaboration with SLP (Street Legal Performance) Canada. It featured a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 engine, paired with either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
Z28 Camaros were assembled at GM’s Sainte Thérèse, Québec, plant, and then in nearby La Salle, SLP installed its proprietary SS cold-air induction system fed by a special NACA duct hood it manufactured. That increased output to 325 hp, or 345 hp with the optional Performance Exhaust. Other options like a SLP Hurst short throw shifter or Level II Bilstein Sport Suspension could also be ordered. SLP then added SS trim and painted the new hood and special rear spoiler to match. Buyers could choose from coupe or convertible body styles, and factory options included T-tops, leather interior, and a Monsoon sound system.
Fourth-generation Camaro production ended in August 2002, and the plant was subsequently closed. Showing just 17,233 miles from new, this factory original 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible possesses the style, performance, and workmanship that only General Motors working with a low-volume specialist like SLP Canada could deliver.
