Description
The 2001 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 marked the final year of the R129 generation, and this convertible grand tourer was celebrated for its blend of styling, performance, and luxury.
Its design was a mix of classic and 21st century, with a wide grille and angular headlights, a boxy rear end, and a long hood, short deck silhouette featuring elegant character lines. That elegance carried over to the interior, where memory power seats, a sophisticated instrument cluster, and a premium audio system complemented high-end leather and wood trim.
Power came by way of a high-tech, naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, which sent 302 horsepower through an automatic transmission and to the rear wheels. A fully independent suspension and ventilated disc brakes were enhanced by advanced safety systems like stability control. Drivers were both exhilarated and firmly in control during six-second 0–60 blasts — which could become 155-mph top speed runs in only a matter of seconds.
This triple-black 2001 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 wears the AMG Styling Package and 18-inch AMG wheels, and coddles its occupants with Nappa leather and Burred Walnut trim.
