The 2001 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition marked a refined evolution of the beloved roadster, celebrating Mazda’s commitment to lightweight performance and driver engagement. This limited-production model was based on the second-generation (NB) Miata and offered unique styling and premium features that set it apart from standard trims. 

Only 3,000 units were produced for the U.S. market, each finished in British Racing Green with a Tan leather interior, evoking classic European sports car aesthetics. The Special Edition featured a six-speed manual transmission, a rarity in Miatas at the time, paired with the 1.8-liter DOHC inline-four engine producing 142 horsepower. This setup offered a more spirited driving experience, with tighter gear ratios and improved acceleration.  

The 2001 Special Edition also included alloy wheels, sport-tuned suspension, and Special Edition badges on the front fenders. Inside, the car boasted wood trim accents, Nardi wood steering wheel and shift knob, and a Bose audio system.
