“A tribute to Saab’s engineering spirit and endurance legacy.” The 1997 Saab 900 SE Turbo Convertible Talladega Edition was a limited-production model created to commemorate Saab’s record-breaking endurance run at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama in 1996. During this event, six Saab 900s—including turbocharged and V6 variants—ran continuously for days, setting 40 international speed and endurance records. One of these remarkable cars, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 900 SE, covered over 25,000 miles at an average speed exceeding 140 mph.

To honor this achievement, Saab released the Talladega Edition in 1997. Only 97 manual-transmission convertibles were produced for the U.S. market. These cars featured unique styling cues such as body-colored bumpers, mirrors, and a front spoiler, along with 16-inch BBS alloy wheels and a Saab sport exhaust. All were painted Black, while inside the Talladega Edition offered Sand leather upholstery, heated power seats, and a woodgrain dash with special instrumentation.

Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 185 horsepower, the car delivered spirited performance through a five-speed manual transmission. The Talladega Edition stands as a tribute to Saab’s engineering prowess and motorsport heritage, blending performance, rarity, and Scandinavian design in a distinctive convertible package.
