Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
In 1993, Pontiac unveiled the fourth-generation Firebird Trans Am to widespread enthusiasm. Its all-new body was crafted from a mix of steel and composite materials, and wore a dramatically raked 68-degree windshield, a sleek aerodynamic nose, and hideaway headlamps through 1997.
Underneath, the chassis wore a high-performance suspension featuring a front short/long arm and rear torque arm setup with monotube shocks. And four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes controlled big wheels and high-performance tires, ensuring the Firebird handled as well as it looked. Inside, the cockpit was driver-focused, offering deeply bolstered bucket seats in cloth or leather, a hooded analog gauge cluster, and a full suite of power and convenience features.
But the real headliner was the 5.7-liter LT1 V8. This powerhouse brought modern engineering to the table with a roller camshaft, redesigned cylinder heads, and the Optispark ignition system. The result was a high-revving, torque-rich engine that delivered 285 horsepower in the 1997 model — paired with either a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, it helped ushered in a new era of Firebird performance.
A Road & Track test revealed, “The Firebird’s V8 accelerates with a raw, insistent urgency…0-60 in 5.8 seconds will surprise owners of more expensive and more sophisticated machinery.”
