Description
The 1995 Mercedes-Benz 300 CE Sportline Cabriolet represents the pinnacle of the W124 convertible lineage, blending open-top elegance with enhanced driving dynamics. As the final model year before the transition to the E-Class naming convention, the 300 CE Cabriolet was already a rare and refined machine. The optional Sportline package elevated it further, adding a performance-oriented edge to this luxury cruiser.
Sportline models feature a lowered suspension, stiffer springs and shocks, quicker steering ratio, and distinctive 8-hole alloy wheels. Inside, upgrades included a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, shift knob, and firmer, bolstered seats for improved lateral support. These enhancements gave the cabriolet a more responsive and engaging character without compromising its signature comfort.
Power comes from the 3.2-liter M104 inline-six, producing 217 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque, paired with a smooth four-speed automatic transmission. The chassis was heavily reinforced to maintain rigidity despite the absence of a fixed roof, ensuring a solid, rattle-free ride.
Automobile Magazine referred to the E-Class Cabriolet as “a grand tourer in the truest sense,” emphasizing its “timeless design and impeccable build quality.” Mercedes-Benz produced 3,676 W124 Cabriolet’s in 1995 and it’s estimated that less than 10 percent were ordered with the Sportline package.

Ownership History
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this 1995 Mercedes-Benz 300 CE Cabriolet in the Houston, Texas, area after it was imported from the U.S. island territory of Guam in 2001. It now shows just 65,049 miles at cataloging.
The consignor states, “Hydraulics for the convertible top were replaced about nine years ago. The original automatically dipping rear-view mirror was replaced with a standard MB rear view mirror about 7 years ago. The top and liner are original, and the photos reflect wear consistent with a 30-year-old vehicle. I have the original radio, which works, but it was swapped for a Pioneer radio that supported Bluetooth.”
