Description
“Whether navigating city streets or forging your own trail, the Defender 90 delivers the confidence and performance that only a Land Rover can,” the automaker proclaimed upon introducing its newest model to the U.S. market.
The 1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS (North American Specification) marked a bold return for the brand, blending British off-road heritage with American regulatory compliance. Powered by a 3.9-liter V8 engine and a five-speed manual transmission, it offers robust performance across all terrains. It also features a distinctive external roll cage, diamond-plate accents, and a utilitarian design that emphasized function over frills. Standard equipment included a “Safari Cage,” brush guards, sliding side-curtain windows, a Class III tow hitch, and weather-resistant interior trim.
4Wheel & Off-Road Magazine praised its rugged appeal, writing, “The Defender 90’s military styling and toughness is built in ... We were impressed with the vehicle's agility and its ability to negotiate and conquer very difficult obstacles with ease.”
Only 1,190 units of the 1995 Defender 90 NAS were imported, making each one — like this fully restored and upgraded example — a rare and iconic piece of Land Rover history rooted in the legacy of the original 1948 Land Rover Series I.

Ownership History
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this three-owner 1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS in Arizona, California, and New Jersey.
The consignor states, “This 1995 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS (number 104 of approximately 1,900 North American-spec units) is a bold reimagining of a British icon. Originally finished in Alpine White, this example underwent a dramatic transformation following fire damage in 2013.”
“It was shipped to ClassicSUV in northern Europe, where it underwent a full nut and bolt restoration over several months. Based in the EU, ClassicSUV specializes in Land Rover builds and restorations, with direct access to OEM and aftermarket parts that are more readily available in Europe. This allows for better quality control and more extensive work than typically possible in North America.”
“The chassis was sandblasted, primed, and coated with anti-corrosion treatment. The 3.9-liter V8 engine was completely rebuilt — including machined heads and block, new pistons, camshaft, bearings, seals, oil pump, and more.”
“The drivetrain, differentials, and axles were fully restored with new seals, bearings, and adjustments. The suspension was upgraded with new bushings, shocks, joints, and corrosion-protected parts. The braking system was entirely renewed with new discs, pads, and lines.”
“Additional upgrades included a new wiring harness, OEM bulkhead, new clutch assembly, Puma-style ignition, and a custom interior with Nappa leather, sound insulation, and multimedia. The result is a top-level custom Defender with classic NAS identity and modern reliability.”
