Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Originally the work of a small crew under the direction of then Chrysler President Bob Lutz, Design Chief Tom Gale, and legendary Carroll Shelby, the Dodge Viper caught the public's full attention when it was unveiled as a concept car at the 1989 Detroit Auto Show.
Eventually offered as Dodge’s answer to the call for a raw, no-frills American supercar, the low-slung Viper RT/10 featured a custom-designed tubular space-frame layout with center spine and lightweight fiberglass body, complemented by a fully independent suspension with Koni coil-over shocks and huge 13-inch brake calipers in front. The Viper's mammoth 8.0-liter V10 engine had originally been designed for Dodge truck duty, but Chrysler looked to Lamborghini for help in designing a new aluminum block and heads, with some of its parts — including the two-valve-per-cylinder pushrod design — carried over. Early Viper engines were rated at 400 horsepower with an impressive redline of 6,000 rpm with 0-60 acceleration in less than five seconds.
This black 1994 Dodge Viper RT/10, showing 11,977 original miles, retains the minimalist, race-inspired design of its predecessors: no exterior door handles, no side windows, and no roof in the traditional sense, and its side-exit exhausts, wide stance, and low-slung body give it an unmistakable presence.
