Description
“Twelve cylinders. Six speeds. One purpose: To deliver the ultimate driving experience.” The 1994–95 BMW 850CSi was the flagship of BMW’s E31 8 Series. Developed by BMW Motorsport, it was a powerful grand tourer that represented the brand’s engineering excellence and performance ambitions.
Under the hood, it featured an M-tuned, 5.6-liter V12 engine producing 372 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. Paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, short gearing, and a limited-slip differential, the 850CSi could rip to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
In addition to the impressive power, the 850CSi was on the bleeding edge of technology. The first CAD-designed car wore a sensuous, stiff, pillarless body with an incredible 0.29 coefficient of drag. The V12 inhaled through the world’s first throttle-by-wire system. The rear suspension was an innovative multi-link design that provided excellent handling and responsive road feel. And another first — a CAN-Bus wiring network — provided digital communication for the CSi’s many advanced systems.
And since only 225 units were imported into the U.S., it is a rare and coveted vehicle today. This clean, two-owner 1994 BMW 850CSi is finished in silver with a two-tone leather interior, has been regularly maintained, and only shows 28,609 miles from new.
