Description
When it debuted in 1987, General Motors introduced the Cadillac Allanté as “The New Spirit of Cadillac.” This limited-production luxury convertible was designed to challenge European rivals like the Mercedes-Benz SL and Jaguar XJS. Its sleek body was crafted by the legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, with final assembly taking place in Detroit. In a unique production process, completed bodies were flown from Turin, Italy to the U.S. aboard specially modified Boeing 747s, 56 at a time.
The Allanté featured a fully independent strut-type suspension, power rack-and-pinion steering, four-wheel power disc brakes with Bosch ABS, and an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. Inside, it offered luxury touches like multi-adjustable Recaro leather seats, digital instrumentation, and a premium Delco Bose AM/FM/cassette audio system.
The 1993 model year marked the Allanté’s final and most refined iteration. It received Cadillac’s advanced 4.6-liter Northstar DOHC V8, delivering 295 horsepower and significantly improved performance over the earlier 4.5-liter V8. That same year, a stock Allanté was honored as the Official Pace Car of the 76th Indianapolis 500, cementing its place in Cadillac’s performance legacy.
This two-owner 1993 Cadillac Allanté, showing 36,361 original miles, has been meticulously maintained and is an excellent example of “The New Spirit of Cadillac.”
