Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
When the Fox-body Mustang entered its final years of production, the 5.0 LX Hatchback stood out as a sleeper performance car. With its lightweight chassis, torquey V8, and rear-wheel-drive layout, it offered a raw, analog driving experience that enthusiasts still celebrate today.
This 1990 Ford Mustang 5.0 LX Hatchback is a largely original example showing 76,952 original miles. Located in Illinois, it has been owned by the seller since 1997, when it was purchased from a local farmer at the recommendation of a neighbor who worked as a Ford engineer. Though initially acquired as a daily driver, the car saw limited use and spent much of its life in long-term storage — at one point sitting untouched for over a decade.
In 2024, the seller recommissioned the car for roadworthiness, replacing the battery, draining and refilling the fuel tank, and performing basic maintenance. Remarkably, the car started immediately after its long hibernation, a testament to the durability of Ford’s fuel injection system. Since then, the Mustang has received new tires, a new aluminum radiator, recharged A/C system, and a K&N intake. The seller notes the car remains highly original, carries a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and is ready for its next caretaker.

Additional Notes
From the seller: “I didn’t buy this Mustang as a collector car — I needed a car in 1997. My neighbor, a Ford engineer, found it and thought it would be perfect for me. Turns out he wanted me to race with him at Byron Dragway. Life got in the way and the car sat for years. I uncovered it in 2024 and it started right up. It’s a survivor, and I’ve done my best to preserve it.”
