The 1989 Pontiac Firebird Formula was the complete pony car package: stylish and aggressive lines, a high-tech V8, and a capable suspension. It was built on the third-generation F-body platform, and featured a low-slung, aerodynamic front with pop-up headlights, sculpted rocker panels and flared fenders, and a wraparound glass hatch with integrated spoiler.

And while the Turbo Trans Am and 5.7-liter V8 got much of the attention, the 5.0-liter LB9 V8 was stout in its own right. Like the 5.7, this 5.0 V8 also wore the Tuned Port Injection (TPI) intake with port fuel injection — and was the only TPI engine that could be equipped with the slick-shifting five-speed manual.

Combined with a lightweight F-body chassis, a standard WS6 suspension featuring MacPherson struts up front and a torque-arm rear, and standard four-wheel disc brakes, the 225-horse Formula was an excellent all-around performer.

The 1989 F-bodies remain sought-after ’80s performance cars. And this 1989 Formula WS6 is finished in striking dark red, wears T-tops, and is optioned with the desirable LB9 V8 and five-speed manual transmission.

• Battery in fair condition mostly due to inactivity 

• Passenger side rear quarter guard piece is black (not body color)
