Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The second-generation Mazda RX-7 (FC), also known as the Mazda Savanna RX-7 in Japan, marked a significant departure from its predecessor with a complete restyling that aligned with the design trends of the late 1980s. Under the leadership of Chief Project Engineer Akio Uchiyama, Mazda’s development team focused on the American market, where the RX-7 had been particularly successful. The FC RX-7 drew inspiration from contemporary sports cars, including the Porsche 944, particularly in its suspension design, resulting in improved handling and performance.

In 1988, Mazda introduced the convertible version of the RX-7, the “FC3C,” featuring a removable rigid roof section and a folding fabric rear section with a heated rear glass window. The convertible’s innovative features included a power-operated roof mechanism, an integral wind blocker that reduced drafts when driving with the top down. These additions enhanced the driving experience and extended the usability of the convertible throughout more of the year, reflecting its aim to appeal to a broad audience with a stylish and functional sports car.
