Description
After 1982’s slow performance start, Chevy’s sleek third-generation Camaro was on a roll by 1985. Chevy embraced its racing heritage by naming the top-performing Camaro Z28 option after the International Race of Champions: the IROC-Z. And while lesser Camaros got four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engines with rudimentary fuel injection or carburetors, the IROC-Z’s V8 wore the Corvette’s Tuned Port Injection system. Its long intake runners added a ton of torque, and provided excellent power and drivability. And the IROC-Z also stood out from regular Z28s with 16-inch wheels and ground effects, unique graphics and badges, as well as a special suspension and high-performance Goodyears.
The IROC-Z’s driver enjoyed a surprisingly good ride on Camaro’s 101-inch wheelbase, while sitting in a comfortable cabin replete with bucket seats, a sport instrument cluster featuring a large 145-mph speedometer and 7,000-rpm tachometer, and all power options. The IROC-Z was a quick, nimble, and attractive machine, and it’s still a desired muscle car today.
This clean 1986 Camaro IROC-Z presents well with Dark Red paint, is equipped with the 5.0-liter TPI engine and an automatic transmission, and is ready to cruise in style with the T-tops off.
