Chevrolet’s sleek third-generation Camaro debuted in 1982 and was on a roll by 1985. The new F-body’s 101-inch wheelbase provided a smooth ride, its futuristic styling was cutting edge, and its cabin offered supportive bucket seats, a sport instrument cluster, and lots of power and convenience options.
This was the year that Chevy, embracing its racing heritage, named the top-performing Camaro Z28 option after the International Race of Champions: the IROC-Z. It’s 5.0L V8 was crowned with the Corvette’s brand-new Tuned Port Injection induction. It featured long intake runners that helped make 215 horsepower and a whopping 275 lb-ft of torque, and combined with a high-tech mass airflow sensor and an advanced ECU, the TPI V8 provided excellent drivability, good economy, and reliable operation in any weather. The IROC-Z stood out from regular Z28s with unique ground effects, graphics, and badges — as well as an upgraded suspension, 16-inch wheels, and high-performance tires that resulted in an impressive .90g around corners. Car and Driver was impressed — in its 1985 10Best Cars article, it concluded, “There can be no denying that the IROC Z28 does get the job done. It is very fast, and very good at all the things we expect sports coupes to do.”
This 1985 Camaro Z28 IROC-Z is finished in silver, wears a black interior, and has a hard top. It’s equipped with the 5.0L TPI V8 backed by a four-speed automatic transmission, and it now shows approximately 70,000 miles.
This Camaro Z28 IROC-Z is now offered by the selling dealer in Wisconsin at no reserve with a clean CARFAX vehicle history report and a clean Illinois title.
