Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Oldsmobile's 1985 dealership brochure called the new Toronado Brougham Coupe a "one-of-a-kind car in a carbon-copy world." Blending performance and luxury, the third-generation Toronado was one of the last full-size coupes offered by an American manufacturer during an era when downsizing was becoming the norm.
The Brougham featured a long hood, short deck, distinctive grille, and Landau top, and the interior offered plenty of comfort and style with plush seats, vast amounts of head and legroom, woodgrain and chrome accents, and electronics that were technologically advanced for the time. Under the hood was a 5.0-liter V8 that came standard, and it was mated to a four-speed overdrive automatic transmission with torque converter clutch. Appropriately, the 1985 Toronado Brougham Coupe is a front-wheel-drive personal luxury car, much like its famous older sibling, the groundbreaking 1966 Toronado, which was the first American production front-wheel-drive car since the 1937 Cord 812.
“The style is distinctive,” boasted Oldsmobile’s 1985 brochure. “The performance assured and confident.”
