Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am launched the third generation of the Firebird line on GM’s new F-body platform, which was lighter and more refined than its predecessor. The redesigned model featured a sleek, aerodynamic body that departed from the muscle car styling of the 1970s, embracing a futuristic look that reflected the 1982 model’s technological leap.
One of the most iconic aspects of the 1982 Trans Am was its role as KITT in the popular TV series “Knight Rider”, which helped cement its status as a cultural icon. The available “Cross-Fire Injection” 5.0-liter V8 offered improved performance and was paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency was further improved by aerodynamic enhancements like a functional hood scoop, front fender vents, and ground effects.
This 1982 Firebird Trans Am was acquired by the seller in 1985. Refurbishment work in 2002 included overhauling the fuel-injected 5.0-liter V8 and refinishing the body in black with gold lower accents. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission, and the cabin is upholstered in gray cloth. The frameless-glass rear hatch wears a louvered cover, and the roof features removable glass panels.
