Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Originally introduced in 1955 and derived from the military M38A1, the CJ-5 was known for its short wheelbase, rugged build, and go-anywhere capability. By 1978, under American Motors Corporation (AMC), the CJ-5 featured a stronger boxed frame, improved steering and braking, and a choice of engines, including the AMC 258ci inline-six in this example.
One of the standout trims that year was the Golden Eagle edition, a stylish variant that added flair to the CJ’s utilitarian roots. It featured a massive gold eagle decal across the hood, gold-painted wheels, and unique striping. The interior often included Levi’s-style upholstery, blending ruggedness with Americana charm.
This CJ-5 reportedly received a body-off refurbishment under previous ownership and is refinished in metallic green over tan Levi’s-style vinyl upholstery. The body is adorned with Golden Eagle and Levi’s graphics, and a tan soft top is fitted. The rebuilt 258ci inline-six sends power to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case.
