Description
Launched for the 1975 model year, the Datsun 280Z marked a defining advancement in the Z-car lineage, embodying a significant evolution over the 260Z with its innovative design and mechanical enhancements.
The introduction of Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection to the 280Z’s new, larger 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine was a huge advancement over the 260 Z’s carburetor. Not only was it more eco-friendly, it also delivered a more potent and thrilling driving experience. The 280Z’s strong chassis, improved suspension, and capable brakes further improved performance, with many enthusiasts taking their lightweight Z cars onto road racing tracks to test their limits.
This 280Z race car sits on a semi tube frame, has a recently freshened stroker engine controlled by a high-end MOTEC EFI system, and uses a custom close-ratio transmission and lightweight drivetrain components. It also wears a coilover suspension, aftermarket brakes, and updated safety equipment. And most impressively, it was a Historic Sportscar Racing class champion, a series it has raced in since 1998.
