Description

For all the plaudits the short wheelbase “early 911s” receive, the original 1966–69 912 was offered side-by-side with the 911, and outsold it two to one. The 912 offered advantages such as sharing the 911's 900-series unibody and stunning good looks, while having better weight distribution. The 912 was revived again in 1976 as a one-year-only “E” model for the U.S. only, powered by a fuel-injected four cylinder.

This particular 1976 912E was one of the earliest electric conversions, as it was restored and electrified for the SEMA show in 2009. And in 2015, it was upgraded with a much newer electric powerplant. It is now equipped with components from EV West including an AC-51 brushless AC motor, and a Curtis 1239-8501 controller powered by 48 CALB 180 Ah batteries. Other components include a Xantrex LinkPro Battery Monitor, EV West motor adapter, Elcon PFC2500 charger, EV West chill plate, liquid cooling pump and radiator kit, J1772 charge port, regeneration brake inducer, high voltage heater kit, and a DC-to-DC converter.

Only 2,092 912Es were built, and this is one of 500 with a sunroof. And to top it all off, this particular car has only logged 6,711 miles since its restoration.
