Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“Toronado. Proud classic among luxury cars. A rare experience on the road.” The 1976 Oldsmobile Toronado was the second-generation front-wheel-drive luxury coupe, a groundbreaking model introduced in 1966 and updated in 1971. Known for its bold styling and innovative engineering, the Toronado was the first American car to feature front-wheel drive since the 1936–37 Cord 810 and 812 models. By 1976, the Toronado had evolved into a large, comfortable, and stylish personal luxury car.
The 1976 model featured a 455 cubic inch Rocket V8 engine, delivering strong torque and smooth cruising power, which would sadly be the last year for this powerplant. It came with a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission and a unique Unitized Power Package that combined the engine and transmission into a compact front-drive layout. The car’s styling emphasized its upscale image with a long hood and grille that also paid homage to the 1930s Cord.
Inside, the Toronado offered plush seating, woodgrain trim, and advanced features and power accessories. The 1976 model also introduced optional airbag systems and automatic climate control, showcasing Oldsmobile’s commitment to safety innovation.
The 1976 Toronado represented an automotive era before downsizing and fuel economy concerns later in the 1970s reshaped the American auto industry.
