Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Introduced for the 1972 model year, the Lincoln Continental Mark IV was available exclusively as a two-door hardtop coupe that competed nearly exclusively against the Cadillac Eldorado. Four inches longer than its predecessor, the Mark IV featured an instantly recognizable Rolls Royce-like grille, hidden headlights, oval opera windows, and a decorative Continental rear trunk hump that evoked the look of rear-mounted spare tires of the 1950s (the spare tire was, in fact, stored immediately behind the rear seat).

As with the Mark III, the Mark IV shared its chassis with the Ford Thunderbird, with the Mark IV receiving its own bodywork below the windows. Updates included new bumpers, greater sound insulation, and thicker carpeting in 1974, and four-wheel disc brakes in 1975. Under its long hood was a 202 horsepower, 460 cubic-inch V8.

This Mark IV is a Bill Blass Designer Edition, built in limited quantities for 1976. All were painted in Dark Blue Metallic with cream and gold two-tone pinstriping. Body molding trim was available in dark blue or contrasting cream, and the car’s Landau roof was finished in Cream Normande Grain.
