Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. This special offering is once again a presentation of the unique, with American Muscle, British class, and heavy post war iron from multiple platforms all on offer. These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * *
The 1974 Jensen Interceptor III Convertible arrived at a pivotal moment for both Jensen Motors and the grand‑touring segment it helped shape. Born in the mid‑1960s as a bold Anglo‑American-Italian creation—combining British engineering, Touring‑styled bodywork, and robust Chrysler V8 power—the Interceptor had long embodied transcontinental luxury. By the early 1970s, Jensen refined the formula further, and the Interceptor III became the model’s most mature expression.
For 1974, Jensen unveiled the Interceptor Convertible, an elegant open‑air cruiser aimed primarily at the American luxury market. Hand‑built in West Bromwich, this rare variant paired supple Connolly leather, a power‑operated soft top, and smooth Chrysler 440 V8 performance with air conditioning and an automatic transmission. The design translated beautifully into convertible form, giving the car a graceful presence few contemporaries could equal.
Its debut, however, coincided with industry headwinds. The oil crisis, tightening emissions rules, and Jensen’s mounting financial troubles kept production low—fewer than 500 convertibles were built before the company’s closure in 1976.
This example was on display in The Tupelo Automobile Museum in Mississippi from 1993 to 2016. Originally trimmed in dark brown leather, it was later reupholstered in a lighter tone and fitted with Recaro seats and a wood‑rim steering wheel. Showing 92,125 miles, it exhibits wear as shown in the gallery and described below, and should be considered a rough, running project car.
This 1974 Jensen Interceptor III Convertible project is now represented by a Broad Arrow Specialist at no reserve in Georgia with owner’s manuals and magazine articles, spare parts, and a clean Louisiania title in the current owner's name.
