Volkswagen launched the Type 2 in 1950 to meet growing demand for a spacious, versatile vehicle. Built on the Beetle’s platform, the Type 2—known as the Transporter or “Kombi”—came in multiple configurations, from the basic panel van with no rear seats or windows to the upscale Deluxe model. The Deluxe, often called the “Samba,” was distinguished by its 21 or 23 windows, seating for eight, and stylish two-tone paint. Production of the original Type 2 T1 ended in Germany in 1967 after nearly two million units were sold worldwide, but its timeless design lived on in Brazil until 1975.

The 1973 Brazilian-built Type 2 T1 featured here has been fully restored and converted to Samba style, blending classic charm with modern amenities.
