Description
MG introduced the MGB in 1962 as a replacement for the MGA. The model incorporated unibody (monocoque) construction, which reduced overall weight and increased chassis rigidity compared with the earlier body-on-frame design. The car retained MG’s emphasis on simplicity and balance, offering a front-engine, rear-drive layout with improved cabin space, better weather protection, and roll-up windows. During its production run, the MGB became one of the best-selling British sports cars, with wide appeal in North America and competition from models produced by Triumph, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo.
By 1973, the MGB had entered its second decade of production, retaining the chrome-bumper styling and 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine that had defined the model since its debut. Output was approximately 95 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The 1973 model year was the final version produced before the adoption of impact-absorbing rubber bumpers and other federal safety changes that altered both appearance and ride height.
This 1973 MG MGB Roadster, chassis number GHN5UD306993, is finished in black with a black interior. A cosmetic and mechanical refresh was reportedly completed in 2014. The car has since been kept in Van Nuys, California. Equipment includes a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with twin SU carburetors, a four-speed manual transmission, alloy wheels, a folding soft top, and an AM/FM radio. A spare tire with an MG-branded cover is also included.
