Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Ford Mustang Mach 1 debuted in 1969 as a performance-oriented version of the Mustang fastback, designed to bridge the gap between the standard Mustang and the more extreme Shelby and Boss variants. The Mach 1 featured unique styling cues such as a matte-black hood, hood scoop, side stripes, and optional rear spoiler and louvers. It was only available in the SportsRoof (fastback) body style.
Under the hood, the Mach 1 offered a range of potent V8 engines, including the legendary 429 Cobra Jet. The 2+2 car also featured upgraded suspension, dual exhausts, and performance tires, making it a true street machine. By 1971, the car could be had with the 375-horsepower 429 Super Cobra Jet (SCJ), a Drag Pack version with solid lifters, forged pistons, and external oil cooler.
This ’71 Mach 1 with 429 SCJ mill began its life in New Jersey and was raced for several years before being involved in an accident. The car was sold and stored for years before being sent for restoration around 2019. The engine has a hi-rise intake, which required the modification of the Ram Air hood (raised and enlarged with welded metal), before it was refinished in its original Bright Red. The interior was not completed.

Ownership History
The Maryland seller of this 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has owned it since February 2023. The seller says, “[The previous owner] had the car for probably 20 years sitting in a barn. When he passed, his widow transferred the title to her name — she didn't realize she could keep it in her spouse’s name and sell it as the executor of the estate. So, the last ‘sold date’ is misleading.”
