By 1970, the Ford XL had reached its final evolution from an upscale, performance-oriented package that was most often applied to the Galaxie 500, into a stand-alone model. The XL was positioned as a refined personal performance car, available with powerful V8 engines and optional luxury features. However, as the 1970s progressed, Ford phased out the XL identity with the development of the LTD, making the 1970 model one of its last notable appearances.

This 1970 XL Convertible was purchased by the seller in June 1996 and is finished in red with a white soft top over a refreshed red interior. Power is provided by a 390ci V8 paired with a three-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

I drove it to a couple of gatherings in 2022 and maybe one in 2023, at which time I did the last oil change that I remember. It starts fine, I moved it out this year to take pictures and didn't have any trouble, but I would not trust it over long distances without a once-over.”
