Description

The 1969 Ford Mustang Grande debuted as a luxury-oriented hardtop variant in response to slowing Mustang sales and growing competition in the pony car market. Positioned as the “fancy hardtop,” the Grande contrasted with performance trims like the Mach 1 by emphasizing comfort and refinement.

The Grande featured a vinyl roof, wire-style wheel covers, color-keyed racing mirrors, and narrow two-tone stripes. Inside, buyers enjoyed deluxe appointments such as woodgrain accents, Comfortweave bucket seats, courtesy lights, and an electric clock. Ford added 55 pounds of extra insulation for a quieter ride and tuned the suspension for smoothness. While the Grande offered no performance upgrades, it could be paired with any Mustang engine — from the base six-cylinder to the 428 Cobra Jet V8.

Purchased new by the seller, this particular ’69 Mustang Grande has stayed in California throughout its life. It wears a repaint in its factory Winter Blue, and--according to the included original window sticker--was optioned with a 390ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, air conditioning, a black vinyl roof, a Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission, a console, power steering/brakes, and more.

This one-owner Mustang is now offered with its original window sticker, original selling dealer front license plate frame, maintenance receipts, a four-volume shop manual set, some spare parts, a car cover, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Ownership History

The seller of this 1969 Ford Mustang Grande purchased it new in November 1968.

The seller says, " When I was 21, I got a part-time job as a bank teller earning $4.10/hour. I desperately wanted to purchase a car that was my own choice, so I saved all of my money during my junior and senior years of college, plus full-time work in the summer. In November 1968, I fell in love with this car, drove it off the showroom floor (of Marck Motors in El Cajon, California), and have had it ever since. It has lived in California all of its life, and for decades it has been kept in a garage. It breaks my heart to sell it, but I am no longer in a position to give it the proper TLC it so richly deserves.”

Included Items

  • Original selling dealer front license plate frame (Marck Motors)

  • Spare tire, jack, and lug wrench

  • Blue vinyl floor mats

  • Car cover

  • Set of 4 1969 Ford Shop Manuals

  • 2 sets of keys

  • Original headlamp shades

  • Master Body Kit

  • Replacement windlace

  • Tackle box with spare stickers and small parts

  • Trunk liner replacement kit

Additional Information

The seller explains, “The car sat for several years, so I had the engine rebuilt at 98K miles. It starts right up and runs as smoothly as it did in years past. It has no rust, has never been in an accident, and the only minor dent is on the roof where my husband dropped an ice cream freezer on it. (It was close, but we stayed married.)

“The door handle vinyl has cracked from use, and there are cracks in the speaker area of the dash. I have never attempted to repair the limited spots of damage to the interior for fear of doing a bad job. The same fear of further damage has kept me from ever having it professionally detailed. The scratch marks on the (driver's kick panel) are from me being short and having to get in and out of the car while wearing high heels for work.

“I had the car repainted a few years back, and sadly, the reassembly was disappointing. For instance, they didn't perfectly replace the rear seat and tore one of the windlace trim strips along the doors. I have a new set but do not have the capacity to do a replacement. Also, the fit of the front grille is slightly off, which made the headlamp shades loose, so I removed them (they are included). And the original chrome strip along the base of the driver's door is loose, so I used painters' tape to give it some extra support.”
