Description
It’s one of those unforgettable images: a 60-second TV commercial featuring a man in a crisp white dinner jacket and gloves. As he strides confidently in front of a striking green car, he declares, “This is the brand-new 1968 Pontiac GTO. It’s been beautifully restyled from bumper to bumper.” Then, in a bold demonstration, he picks up a crowbar and strikes the front bumper seven times—without leaving a mark.
The 1968 GTO was truly revolutionary. From its innovative Endura rubber front bumper to its sleek roofline that flowed seamlessly into the rear quarter panels, it was shorter, sharper, and more refined than its predecessors. It wasn’t just a redesign—it was a statement. The GTO once again claimed its crown as America’s favorite muscle car and earned the title of Motor Trend’s Car of the Year.
So when 1969 rolled around, Pontiac knew better than to mess with success. This 1969 Pontiac GTO Hardtop is a head-turner, especially when refinished in factory-correct Liberty Blue. Its bold silhouette commands attention, and under the hood, the standard 400 cubic-inch V8 delivers 350 horsepower through a four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter. Is it any wonder Pontiac proudly called the GTO “The Great One”?
