Description
By the late 1960s, budget muscle cars from Mopar, Ford, and even GM had cut into the market that Pontiac’s GTO created. So in 1968, Pontiac returned fire with a bold redesign. The second-generation GTO’s semi-fastback body was curvy yet aggressive, and included a revised grille, horizontal headlights, and a new Endura front bumper that resisted dents. The perimeter frame used a 112-inch wheelbase, and a performance suspension underpinned that voluptuous body.
1969 GTOs were offered with four 400ci V8s, including the 350 horsepower unit seen here, paired with a 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual, or Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmissions. Inside, a comfortable bench seat or buckets let drivers look upon a purpose-built instrument panel, and shift gears on the column or on the console. The 1969 GTO’s aggressive styling and performance solidified its status as an American performance icon. And while 72,287 1969 GTOs were built, only 7,436 were convertibles.
This triple-white 1969 GTO Convertible is powered by a 400ci V8 backed by a 3-speed automatic. The seller states that this car underwent a body-off restoration prior to their ownership.
This GTO convertible is now offered with some service receipts, a current Virginia safety inspection sticker, and a Virginia title in the seller’s name listing mileage as “Not Actual”.
