Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

“So you see, we don’t build them like we used to. That’s our message.” American Motors’ print ad for the Rogue was clear. The 1969 Rambler was the lowest cost car made in the USA, as well as the smallest. “It lists for $1,946, scrimps on gas, and doesn’t change styles from year to year. Yet it seats six comfortably, and gives you more than twice the horsepower and trunk space of the VW.” Better yet, it won its class in the Mobil Economy Run for six of the past seven years, while a mostly stock Rambler won its class at the Baja 500 in 1969. But if economy and durability wasn’t a buyer’s only consideration, there was the stylish and fun Rogue. From 1966 to 1969 this added an upgraded interior, two-tone paint, some badge and trim changes, and the option of AMC’s 290 cu-in V8. But even with the Rogue’s standard 232 cu-in inline-six, this was a lightweight coupe with the engine and suspension derived from AMC’s Javelin pony car, making it a surprisingly sporty performer in economy car clothing. This well-preserved original condition 1969 Rambler Rogue certainly delivers that message.
