Description
The 1968 AMC AMX marked American Motors Corporation’s bold entry into the muscle car market, offering a unique blend of performance, style, and innovation. Unlike its competitors, the AMX was a true two-seater sports coupe. Built on a shortened Javelin platform, the AMX featured aggressive styling, a long hood, and a short rear deck, emphasizing its performance-oriented design.
The AMX was well-received by enthusiasts and even set speed records at Bonneville, helping AMC shed its economy-car image. With fewer than 7,000 units produced in its debut year, the 1968 AMX remains a rare and desirable collector car today.
This 1968 example is finished in red exterior with white racing stripes and 15” American Racing wheels. Stepping inside, you’re greeted with a simple yet sporty interior featuring aftermarket bucket seats, a 120mph speedometer and factory tachometer, and three pedals. With evidence of prior refurbishment work and upgrades like an MSD ignition system and Holley four-barrel carburetor, this 1968 AMX is now offered with a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name.
