Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
As part of Plymouth’s second-generation Barracuda lineup (1967–69), the 1968 model year brought a notable expansion in body styles. Plymouth proudly advertised, “Three ways to go your own way: Fastback, Convertible, and the new Notchback.” While the fastback and convertible returned with their signature flair, 1968 introduced the more formal and less common notchback hardtop coupe featuring a squared-off roofline and a traditional trunk.
Plymouth aimed the fastback at male buyers, while the notchback coupe designed by Shunsuke “Matty” Matsuura was crafted with female drivers in mind. Car Life magazine praised the design, noting it had “a tautness of line and an integrity of design unmatched by few American cars of any vintage.”
Beyond its styling, the 1968 Barracuda received several updates, including federally mandated side marker lights and optional headrests. Under the hood, buyers could choose from a broad range of engines — from the efficient yet lively 225 cubic-inch Slant-Six to the powerful 383 V8.
The 1968 Barracuda Notchback remains a symbol of Plymouth’s effort to combine performance, style, and versatility during the golden age of Pony cars. For one original owner, it was more than just a car — it was a lifelong companion; the only vehicle she ever owned.

Ownership History
The consignor tells the story, “This car was purchased, as best my parents can remember, the second week of October 1967 from the Plymouth dealer in State College, Pennsylvania. They remember the date because it was a week before I was born! Its purchaser was Naomi, my grandmother, and, at 51, it was the first — and as it would turn out, only — car she ever owned or drove. Her husband, Floyd, was a Caddy man, which was good for two reasons: (1) He did all of the major driving and (2) His land yachts would not fit in their tiny one car garage! This meant the Barracuda was garage kept for 40 years after. It’s cliché, but this is literally the car the little old lady drove to the supermarket and to get her hair done."
"Naomi lived to 97, driving until just before her 90th birthday. When the eye doctor advised her against continued driving, the car moved to Delaware, and me. Naomi was 4-foot-10 and 98 pounds soaking wet. Why is this important? Because these hundred or so little pock marks on the door were where, after pushing the door open a foot or two, she would swing sideways in the seat and use her heel to kick the heavy (for her!) door open the rest of the way to get out. I considered fixing them many years ago, but due to nostalgia I never have. No rust under the door, and just surface rust on the little old lady heel dings.”
