Description
The 1964 New York World's Fair witnessed Ford's automotive revolution with the unveiling of the Mustang, a car that swiftly captured the hearts of young enthusiasts and achieved remarkable sales exceeding a quarter-million units by year's end. The Mustang’s runaway success coincided with the dominance of the Ford-powered Cobra Daytona Coupe at the 1964 12 Hours of Sebring on a global tour in the FIA International Championship en route to Le Mans.
Eager to replicate this success in SCCA road racing, Ford homologated the Mustang for B-Production competition, challenging the supremacy of Corvettes, Jaguar E-Types, Sunbeam Tigers, and Ferraris. Ford enlisted Carroll Shelby to transform the nascent Mustang into a formidable racing car. Shelby's creation, the GT350, emerged as the undisputed champion, clinching the 1965 B-Production Championship. This thoroughbred boasted an additional 35 horsepower over the standard "K-Code" Hi-Po 289 V8, achieved through a Holley carburetor, aluminum high-rise manifold, and Tri-Y headers. Other enhancements included larger rear drum brakes and Kelsey-Hayes front discs.
The 1966 model year saw an expansion of the GT350's color palette, followed by more transformative changes to both the Mustang and its Shelby counterparts in 1967. A bespoke fiberglass hood with dramatic scoops now crowned the front, while air intakes reminiscent of the GT40 race cars adorned the quarter panels. An aggressive fiberglass nose and matching tail piece completed the car's bold stance. While the essence of the original 1965 design remained, Shelby's iterations now stood distinctly apart from their Mustang stablemates, achieving Carroll Shelby's vision of a truly differentiated vehicle. This outstanding 1967 Shelby GT350, finished in highly desirable Lime Gold over Black Decor vinyl interior, is one of only four examples produced with its specific combination of options, including the coveted four-speed manual transmission and Kelsey-Hayes Magstar Deluxe Wheel package. Other desirable factory-equipped options included power disc brakes, power steering, Extra Cooling Package, folding Sport Deck rear seat, shoulder harnesses, Courtesy Light Group, tachometer, trip odometer and more.
