Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“It’s the youngmobile with the big V-8 and the lean, clean look of action,” Oldsmobile said of the 1967 4-4-2. Originally introduced in 1964 as a performance package for the Cutlass, the 4-4-2 name stood for a 400 cubic-inch engine, four-barrel carburetor, and dual exhausts.
By 1967, the 4-4-2 was offered exclusively on the upscale Cutlass Supreme line, including the convertible model. Under the hood, the standard engine was a 400 cu-in V8 producing 350 horsepower, but performance enthusiasts could opt for the W-30 package, which added a cold air induction system. Transmission options included a four-speed manual with Hurst linkage and the new three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic. The 1967 model also introduced key safety upgrades like an energy-absorbing steering column and padded dashboard. Styling updates included a revised grille and split headlight design, while the convertible offered open-air thrills with muscle car performance.
Praised for its handling and ride quality, Car and Driver in 1967 said of the 4-4-2, “It’s the best handling car of its type we’ve ever tested ... Instead of the typical horrendous understeer generally found in domestic cars, the 4-4-2 is basically neutral under all conditions.” The 1967 4-4-2 Tribute, based on a Cutlass Supreme Convertible, represents an uncommon blend of luxury, power, and style from in the muscle car era.
