Description

The Mercury Cyclone was introduced by FoMoCo into the Mercury lineup in 1964 as a muscle car between the Cougar pony car, and the Marquis and Marauder full-size two-door models. The Cyclone replaced the performance-oriented version of the Comet, and represented the Mercury brand in racing as a clone to the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt.

Mercury debuted new generations of the Cyclone every two years, until its end in 1972. The second generation’s 1967 GT model used a 390 cu-in V8 rated at 320 horsepower. The GT also included a bright engine dress‑up kit, Twin Scoop GT Hood, dual exhausts, rally stripes, special wheels with 5½″ rims, Wide Oval nylon‑cord white–sidewall tires, power front disc brakes, 3.25 : 1 axle ratio and a performance handling package. This was FoMoCo’s answer to Tri-Power GTOs and Big Block Mopars.

This 1967 Mercury Cyclone GT is a well-documented, award-winning example, boasting AACA Junior, AACA Senior, AACA Grand National, AACA Grand National Senior, as well as the coveted AACA James Melton Memorial Cup awards. Included with the sale is its Marti Report and a copy of the factory window sticker. As Mercury advertised, “The man who loves the excitement of high performance will just naturally take to the Cyclone two‑door hardtop or convertible.”
