Description
The Chevrolet Corvette (C2), the second generation of the iconic sports car produced by General Motors from 1963 to 1967, marked a new era in design and performance. The 1966 Sting Ray showcased innovation with its rear transaxle, independent rear suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes, all wrapped in an unforgettable design.
Corvette buyers could choose between the stylish coupe and the more popular convertible bodies and select from four engines ranging from the milder 327 cu-in to the potent 427 cu-in power plants. There was also a dazzling spectrum of colors and interior choices to tailor each Corvette to its owner’s personal taste.
This matching numbers 1966 Corvette convertible survivor was originally painted in Nassau Blue paint from the factory, has a matching Bright Blue vinyl interior, and is motivated by its 390-hp 427 L36 Big-Block and required four-speed manual transmission. It was sold new at Hanley Dawson Chevrolet in Detroit on 26 April 1966 and was found outdoors in Ohio in 2011 when it was purchased by the current owner. All areas of the internal mechanicals were machined and professionally cleaned and rebuilt in 2015 while retaining their original appearance. The body, interior, top, and frame, however, have been left in their as-found state. This unique 1966 Corvette L36 Convertible has the refreshed mechanicals and driving performance of a restored vehicle, with the patina and imperfections acquired through time and enjoyment — the very definition of “Genuine Chevrolet.”

Ownership History
The consignor of this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible 427/390 states, “The Corvette sat for 40 years prior to the current owner buying the car and getting it back into running and driving condition. The Corvette was originally purchased in Michigan and was found outdoors in Ohio where the current owner purchased it and then brought it to Pennsylvania to get the car back into running and driving order. To the best of the current owner’s knowledge, the car has never been wrecked. Frame underneath the car is soft from rust, but the car starts, runs, drives, and tracks straight when driving down the road and operates as designed.”
