“Over the years it has been a recognized fact that few family possessions provide as much satisfaction and pleasure as a Cadillac... and few represent so sound an investment.” Cadillac marketers were excited about the luxury automaker's 1966 model line, reminding potential buyers that new or not, Cadillac remained the “Standard of the World.”
Cadillac announced a new De Ville series the prior year — now with a capital “D” — that included a convertible and pillared sedan for the first time. This full slate of new De Ville models effectively replaced the former Series 62 line. Subtly but superbly detailed, these Cadillacs utilized a new perimeter-frame chassis while retaining a 129.5-inch wheelbase and an overall length of 224 inches. Dual stacked headlamps were featured at the front, while only a suggestion of fins remained in the rear. Power steering, windows, and brakes were standard on all Cadillac models, and De Ville models were powered by a 429 cu-in V8 that produced 340 horsepower. The results were so new, the 1966 models continued with only minor improvements.
This 1966 Cadillac convertible was purchased new from Blake Cadillac-Olds in Harrisburg, PA and was a part of the Glenn Boyd Collection for several years. The Boyd Collection started with Boyd’s grandfather, who owned a local used car dealership in Henderson, NC. Glenn, at 25, bought a new car dealership with his two brothers and thus began a half-century’s worth of private collection, finding the best-of-the-best at car auctions and from his own dealership network.
The 52,955 miles are believed to be original, according to accompanying previous title work and reportedly bolstered by paint meter readings of the factory-correct Ember Firemist paint. This DeVille was heavily optioned from the factory with an 8-way power bench seat, power windows, power door locks, power top, factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, signal-seeking AM/FM radio.
